Music has the ability to bind ideas with melody, concepts with rhythm, and turn an objective task into a subjective form of expression. The best part of music improv is that it doesn't require the participants to be talented in music. So, do you have to be musical to attend this session? Not at all! “Teaching, Underscored” is for the non-musical improviser, improv group, or theater arts educator (booklet and CD can be included).
Learning through music provides another neural pathway through which many students can quickly memorize and grasp material in imaginative ways. In these days where arts in the classroom are often threatened by budget cuts, learn how to create classroom environments that use music as another tool to reach and engage students. The music elements create the pathway for the participants to find greater meaning with the material and have a shared imaginative experience. This session introduces teachers to simple and accessible music improv activities which can be easily adapted to specific classroom needs.
Created and led by teacher, music director Stephanie Vlcek. Stephanie's commitment and passion for this work is very spirited and contagious. The highly supportive and accepting atmosphere she instills brings even the most timid of teachers out of their shell and singing!
